Jessie Risman, LPC-MHSP
I work with clients ready to recover and heal from interpersonal trauma, anxiety, and relationship issues keeping them stuck. I especially enjoy working with clients with complex trauma histories that have created patterns of high functioning anxiety, codependency, and self-neglect. This might look like finding oneself in unhealthy relationships, overcommitted and burnt-out, or trapped in cycles of family dysfunction. Many of my clients long for healthier boundaries, more authentic connection to self and others, less anxiety and shame, greater self-worth, and a more value-aligned life.
My approach to therapy is integrative, attachment focused, and trauma-informed. I offer individual, couples, and group therapy as well as EMDR services. I draw from Person-Centered Theory, Modern Analytic Theory, and Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR. Because we are wounded in the context of relationship, the most effective healing takes place there, too. Whether I’m seeing you one-on-one or facilitating my favorite form of therapy - an interpersonal process group - I believe the relationship is the most powerful tool we can use to do deep and meaningful work.
In working together, I help you process your emotions, get unstuck from the patterns that no longer serve you, and connect more authentically with yourself and others. I want your therapy journey to be positive, effective, and uniquely yours. Clients describe me as the right amount of gentle and challenging. I’d love to help you access the healthy, meaningful, and authentic life you long to live.
Originally from Dallas, I’ve been calling Nashville home for nearly 15 years. My background in nonprofit administration and hospitality, as well as my own therapy journey, led me to pivot and pursue a career in counseling. When not seeing clients, you may find me lost in a book at a favorite coffee shop, dancing on a bike at spin class, or enjoying quality time with my husband, daughter, and our sweet dog.
